We are excited to share another successful installation, completed for National Brands Limited - an FMCG company that houses the likes of popular South African house-hold names such as Bakers® Biscuits.

We supplied and installed an energy-efficient water-cooled air-conditioning system into an area which remained fully operational for the entire duration of the project.

During the installation, the WCPU (Water-Cooled Package Units) were mounted on steel platforms surrounding the perimeter of the building.

All units were equipped with factory fitted, specifically designed plenums, that included jet nozzles allowing for even air distribution with an 18m airflow.

Additionally, the standard Modbus-ready controllers were utilized within the units and integrated with Carel BOSS controllers, enabling remote monitoring and off-site access to the system.

The standard controllers ensure;

  • Accurate control of the unit, with three stages of cooling per unit.

  • Equal running times of compressors, within each unit.

  • Display of error codes on the touchpad, indicating any unit faults.

The standard controllers ensure maximum efficiency, as the parameters within the controllers were all adjustable. This allowed our client customised control which exceeded the design conditions and specifications of the client.

The installation of this project comprised of two separate zones;

  • Zone one, located in the North, consisted of three PWC-D1050MP TECO WCPUs, with two units active and the other on standby. All units have an automated valve on the condenser water supply line; the valve closes when the unit is on standby mode and automatically opens when the unit is scheduled to run.

  • Zone two, situated in the South, consisted of three PWC-D1050MP units. Two of these units were designed to provide sufficient cooling capacity, creating a diverse scenario for the installed units.

The two-cell cooling tower serves all of the units. The cooling tower has two fan motors that are controlled on water temperature by a VFD (Variable Frequency Drive.)

Furthermore, the water temperature into the condensers is controlled by a water bypass valve positioned at the cooling tower. This setup enables accurate control of the condenser water temperature and ensures optimum efficiency from the WCPUs.

In the end, we successfully supplied, delivered, and installed an energy-efficient, water-cooled air-conditioning system.
